Chris Windsor Photographer
Born in Buckinghamshire, Chris Windsor’s interest in photography started in childhood. With his father working as an advertising photographer, Chris was introduced at an early age to the dynamic, exciting world of photographic shoots. The gift from his father of a 35mm Canon, saw a fourteen-year-old Chris, camera in hand, exploring Leather Lane Market taking pictures of the characters around him. He still remembers the excitement of returning to a darkroom to develop his film, watching the images appear and discovering what shots he had.
After school, Chris did a photography degree, then, at the age of 18, started work as a freelance photographic assistant. Since 1989, Chris has worked as a freelance photographer, based in London initially specialising in advertising photography. Over the years his images have appeared in national newspapers, magazines, books and brochures and on 48-sheet posters.
Chris has worked with his wife, food-writer Jenny Linford, on various projects, doing travel features on places from Tuscany to Singapore and taking portraits of London’s food shop-keepers for Food Lovers’ London, Jenny’s gastronomic guide to London, now in its fifth edition. Spring 2010 sees the publication of their latest joint project, The London Cookbook.
Taking pictures of people is something Chris particularly enjoys, inter-acting with them to produce relaxed, friendly portraits which capture the essence of the person in question. His subjects have ranged from celebrities to more reportage-style observations.
Natural abstracts are a recent interest, with Chris finding pleasure in taking pictures of the textures, shapes, patterns and natural formations that he finds in environments ranging from the Cornish coast to London parks.
